Book 2 Post 1

I started reading The Wayfinders: Why Ancient Wisdom Matters in the Modern World by Wade Davis This book is about answering the fundamental question: What does it mean to be human and alive? Wade Davis answers this by examining different cultures and perspectives of life. It is a unique approach, but one that makes sense after reading his explanations. It finds similarities between different cultures.

 

I chose this book because I thought it would be interesting to learn about different cultures and how they lived. This book reads like a history book. It gives the facts and reasonings which I appreciate. The formal organization of the book defines a clear direction and helps me understand what Davis is trying to portray. I have already learned about new cultures that I was unaware of. For example, he talks about the first group of humans on earth who he refers to as the trunk of humanity and the different races are like different branches. Learning about them helps explain the fundamental likeness of all humans and starts the book with a strong foundation which makes me excited for the upcoming chapters.

 For my second book, I read "The Wayfinders" by Wade Davis. This book followed many different cultures. Davis analyzed each culture and wrote about their unique perspectives to find the fundamental likeness of humans and answer the question: what does it mean to be human and alive?  At first, it was hard to read. I felt like I was reading a history book because he included an enormous amount of detail about everything. It felt like he described every thought process he experienced during his analysis of every culture. Also, it was a hard read for me because his diction is very different from mine.  I think one way I can contribute to making the world better would be to increase a business’ shared value since I am a business student who will likely work to increase a business’ profit margins.   Creating Shared Value (CSV) is a business strategy that aims to create economic value for a company while also addressing social and environmental issues. Cart Girl   When I tell people that I was a cart girl over the summer, people are often envious of the job title. They imagine being a cart girl as the ideal summer job because you can enjoy the weather, serve drinks easily, and drive a cart around. From my experience, I can confirm that this job is a fun summer job, but it requires more effort than I expected.   A cart girl is someone who provides snacks and drinks to golfers while they stroll the course . We deliver the items to the golfers in a larger-than-average golf cart which displays some of the items we sell.
